Getting files into Moodle from Onedrive

An extremely easy way to get video and files into Moodle

This method uses OneDrive, which is a cloud-based storage solution that comes with Microsoft Office. Everyone at Tech has one Terabyte of space for storage through OneDrive. Below is a simple tutorial for getting the content from your computer to OneDrive:

1.       Log into Outlook from a web browser.

2.       Click the 3x3 grid of dots in the upper left corner next to the Montana Tech Logo.

3.       Select OneDrive, which is the cloud icon on the first row.

4.       If you have not used OneDrive before, click through the advertisement.

5.       You will now see your storage.

6.       There are at least two ways to get your content into OneDrive.

a.       The easiest is to simply locate your content on your computer and drag the file to the open OneDrive window.

b.       You can also use the upload button at the top of the OneDrive page to navigate to your content and upload it.

7.       When your content is uploaded you will see a box appear at the top of the screen with a button titled Share Link. Click this button.

8.       Select People in Montana Tech with this link and uncheck the Allow editing button. This assures that no one edits the content that you are sharing.

9.       Click Apply.

10.   The screen will refresh and you will see a box titled Send Link. At the bottom of the screen click copy link.

11.   Next click the Copy button. The link is copied to your clipboard and is now ready to be pasted into Moodle. You don’t need to do anything else with OneDrive

12.   In your Moodle course, turn editing on by clicking the gear in the upper right corner of the screen.

13.   Now Click Add an activity or resource in the week you want to place the content.

14.   Scroll down and select URL from the list that appears.

15.   Now paste the address from OneDrive into the External URL text box. Fill in the name and description boxes as needed.

16.   Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click one of the Save options.

17.   You should now be able to see the link in your course.

18.   You can verify that everything is working by clicking the link to the content in Moodle.
